Park Road Gardens

Park Road Gardens is an attractive well maintained, ornamental park just outside the centre of Grange Over Sands. It contains a varied plant profile, manicured lawns and magnificent trees. Situated behind the famous promenade, it houses an impressive bandstand, which acts as a centre piece for local musical entertainment.

Formerly owned by Reverend James Park and then bought by Grange Urban District Council. The bandstand was originally sited on the famous promenade but because of the high winds adverse affects on the clothing of the ladies of the day, it was taken down and rebuilt in the centre of the park in 1930.

Since its establishment as a public park, the gardens have been managed as an ornamental amenity. The addition of a sensory garden in 1998 broadened its appeal making provision for people with disability.

Present Use & Special Events:

The park is used by a wide cross section of the local community and visitors to the Grange. It forms part of a triangle of ornamental open space, linking to the promenade and the ornamental gardens and offers a variety of leisure interest from an oasis for quiet contemplation to the very popular feature bandstand offering an entertainment attraction throughout the summer months. There are also important annual events in the park, for example the annual Edwardian Festival that attracts hundreds of participants and visitors.
