Continental Landscapes Ltd. has successfully renewed its Grounds Maintenance partnership with the Borough of Worthing in West Sussex.

A new agreement commenced on 1st January 2003 for a period of 10 years. The company have worked in partnership with Worthing Borough Council since 1996, and are excited with the responsibilities the new contract will bring.

Continental Landscapes’ new service has many facets that stretch beyond conventional maintenance contracts. The company will be managing most of the town’s sports facilities, including cricket, hockey, football, putting, tennis and bowls. Prestigiously, Continental Landscapes has been given responsibilities for the facility management of Beach House Park, the home of the English Bowling Association. Its tree-lined paths and greens are the scene of the National Bowling Championships – the ‘Wimbledon’ of the Bowls world – every summer.

With over 100 acres of parks within Worthing, park security has been specially tailored for the Borough. Continental Landscapes are partnering Sussex Police and Worthing Borough Council to strive to make the town’s parks and open spaces a safe and enjoyable place for all users, 24 hours a day.

The many hotels and leisure attractions along Worthing’s seafront have already benefited from the renewed contract. A programme of seafront landscape enhancement saw ‘Specialist Cordyline’ trees imported from Italy and planted onto the town’s historic Marine Parade in time for the Worthing Festival in July. The addition of the trees has successfully given the area a distinct ‘Mediterranean’ feel.

Bolstering the contract are teams performing the tasks of grass cutting, arboriculture, fine turf maintenance and crematorium and cemetery maintenance. Continental Landscapes’ FA award-winning groundsman Eddie Potkins the chargehand responsible for sports. These teams are all paving the way for a long and happy partnership with Worthing Borough Council.

Chris Bradley, Worthing Borough Council’s Parks Manager said “Continental offered the best solution in the Marketplace at tender stage. Eight months in, we made the right decision.”
