PROJECTS - Ragwort Removal

This task was to cut and collect Ragwort which when growing and when it is cut is poisonous to grazing animals. We had to cut collect and remove the Ragwort from the site to make it safe.

The aim was to remove it before it set seeds which would blow into neighbouring fields used for grazing horses and farm animals.

The next step is to gather the arisings into swathes using a rake so that the cut vegetation can be collected easily by the 'round baler'

The round baler collects the vegetation and bails it. The bales are kept
together using netting.

The bales are then collected by a tractor and taken away by trailer to the
recycling depot, where the product is allowed to rot down and turned into
compost for re-use.
