

![]() 3 October 2007 PARKS AND OPENS SPACES CONTRACT AWARDED Borough of Poole has selected a contractor to maintain the town's public Parks and Open Spaces until 2015. Continental Landscapes Ltd has been awarded a seven-year contract to provide grounds maintenance services for Borough of Poole. The contract will start on January 1, 2008, and includes the maintenance of Poole Park and the delivery of other services including grass cutting, landscape maintenance, allotment management, sports bookings and tree works. Six companies were invited to tender for the grounds maintenance contract. Each bid was subject to a robust and thorough evaluation process. Continental Landscapes will also support Borough of Poole's objective of attaining Green Flag status for its Parks and Open Spaces. Upton Country Park, managed by Borough of Poole, was awarded Green Flag status in July. The prestigious award is the national standard for parks and green spaces in England and Wales. Cllr Peter Adams, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture, Borough of Poole, said: "Continental Landscapes Ltd has contracts with local authorities nationwide and a track record of working with councils to achieve and retain Green Flag Awards. We are confident Continental Landscapes will provide a good standard of maintenance and value for money to both residents and visitors." Simon Legg, Contracts Team Leader for Leisure Services, Borough of Poole, said: "Continental has committed to working with Borough of Poole to maintain and improve standards, as well as taking steps to reduce the environmental impact of the grounds maintenance service. We are already looking at plans to trial alternative fuel vehicles in Poole Park and measures to harvest rain water from our depot buildings." The contract includes maintenance of Borough of Poole's 42 play facilities, 52 football and cricket pitches, as well as 500 miles of path and road edging and 36 miles of hedge cutting. Continental Landscapes will work alongside Borough of Poole staff, who will continue work on grounds maintenance of cemeteries and PHP sheltered housing schemes, beaches and specialist conservation work. -Ends-
