Summer 2007 Review

The summer of 2007 saw a lot of competitions, culminating in the matchplay club championship which was won by Ted Garnett, in a tightly fought battle with Janet Wardle. Also the amateur team trophy was won for the forth successive year by Big Bobby's Boys.

Fourteen year old Michael Bullen has qualified to play at the Belfry having won the Southern Region section of the British Golf Foundation, one leg of which was held at Brooklands.

And the most outstanding performance of the year must be Rae Bicknell (who is only 6 years old) playing in his first tournament, a leg of the Nick Faldo mini series, again played at Brooklands. He undoubtedly shows a natural ability far beyond his years and scored a most commendable 39 completely seeing off all opposition in his age group (under 8's).

The pairs tournament, again a great success, was won by father and son duo Nick Felsby and Ben (age ten).

The night golf tournament was won by Pat Brown and our own Wendy Case, and the drawn pairs, earlier in the year was won by Mark Flinders and Janet Wardle.

Generally speaking the summer was a success especially with the amount of youngsters taking advantage of the Monday, Wednesday and Friday coaching sessions throughout the summer holidays. The Saturday morning tuition again is gaining momentum, the black spot for the year will most probably be the theft of the training net by unscrupulous thieves.

The Coming Winter of 2007

We have a winter league planned and a winter knockout tournament that will commence February/March 2008 and anyone interested should contact 01903 232270.

The Summer of 2008

Brooklands versus Hill Barn

Over the summer months on Tuesday nights we'll be holding a series of events ranging from pairs competitions, shoot outs, night tournaments and golf seminars, which will be to educate golfers on the etiquette and basic rules of golf, these will be fun evenings where we hope to insill a proficient standard and working knowledge about golf, these will be free to attend with a questions and answers opportunity.

The Brooklands summer matchplay knockout had an entry of nearly sixty people, ranging from juniours, ladies and men, and is now well under way, culminating in the final in September.
