It’s proved an eventful 12 months at Brooklands with all the competitions being a great success, with the two night tournaments enjoyed by 18 teams on both occasions, the match play championship with a full 64 player entry, culminating in a final won by young Sam Gill beating runner up Vic Galloway in a closely fought battle.  As usual the team challenge in late August was a huge success, and the four time winners Big Bobby’s Boys this year had to succumb to the eventual winners “The fore skins” albeit Big Bobby’s Boys put up a great defence of their title finishing runners up, and the third place team, Iffy, Stiffy, Wiffy & Niffy.

The pairs tournaments again hugely successful, we must mention, at this stage the progress of young Rae Bicknell (age 7), has been staggering.  He won the local qualifying stage of the Wee Wonders under eights, but stumbled at the regional qualifying but showed an outstanding display of golf skill as he was only 6 at the time, watch this space for further progress in 2009.

As with all golf courses throughout the south we haven’t enjoyed the best of summers weather-wise, but the par 3 having been established now for 14 years is fast proving to be one of the best nine hole par 3’s in Sussex for youngsters, beginners and experienced players to tune up their short game.

With all the competitions at Brooklands available for everyone (no membership required) to enter, many people are now playing competitive golf without the cost or commitment to the usual joining and season fees which are liable at all other clubs.

The 2009 programme beginning in March will be to include Pairs competition, night tournaments, the summer knockout championship, the one club challenge, team tournaments, skill challenge, shootouts, ladies day and junior competition.

All details of dates and times ring 01903 232270 to join in and experience a great time.  Also throughout 2009 there will be golf “seminars” on both teaching and the rules of golf, with a “fun” theme to interest all.  We’ll also be introducing a golf programme open to all ages where your progress is logged throughout the summer and a certificate of proficiency will be awarded based of ability in the form of gold-silver-bronze.  The junior coaching sessions on Saturdays at 9:30 through till 11:00 will also be available on Wednesdays in school holidays, under the guidance of Tim Lewis.

An exciting addition to the par 3 schedule in 2009 will be in holding a local qualifier for the HSBC Wee Wonders tournament on Saturday 6th June, all boys and girls up to 12 years of age are eligible to play in one of the categorised age groups of under 6, under 8, under 10, or under 12.  All details will be available on the Wee Wonders website for registration forms, these will also be available at Brooklands.  This is a wonderful opportunity for youngsters to take part in what has now established itself as one of the largest junior competitions in the UK.  The lucky qualifiers will progress to the regional qualifiers and the chosen few onto St Andrews for the finals.  Entry forms will be available from January 7th; entry is £8.00 per child, which will include the golf, certificate of entry and good bag.
