| Greenhand Landscapes,
a division of Continental Landscapes, operating in the North West,
recently completed landscaping work at the entrance to a major new
business park in Runcorn for the Commission for the New Towns.
The work involved stripping off 2,000 tonnes of topsoil before importing 14,500 tonnes of subsoil to extend the width of the verges and to create a landscaped mound on the roundabout. Once the formation was completed the topsoil was re-spread and an additional 4,000 tonnes imported for the shrub beds and grass areas. During the earthwork we had to prepare bases and erect 30 steel pergolas including painting with 4 coats of paint and fixing on wires, and also erect a wooden crib wall to protect a mature oak tree below the bank on one side. 164 semi mature trees (30-35cm girth), 5,000 Copper Beech hedge plants and 20,000 herbaceous plants were then planted and mulched round as well as laying ½ hectare of turf. The time limit on the contract was 5 weeks to be ready for the official opening of the park and the value of the work undertaken was £1/4 million. The project was completed within a very limited time sale and to the complete satisfaction of our client. Services associated with Borough of Barrow Council Continental
